LBD: The Little Black Dress

You can never talk enough of the LBD. This is one essential wardrobe piece I’ve known and owned since I was 13 🙂 (yes, I was BORN this way! lol)As much as I advocate for use of African fabrics and materials, you cannot deny that the Black Dress (little or big) is a MUST-HAVE in any fashionable woman’s wardrobe.

My mum [my stylist then] was NOT a fan of anything black in the wardrobe. [that foreboding myth about black being for death, bad etc].
Oh well, I just happen to like BLACK! I guess because I read somewhere in one my ‘Seventeen‘ Magazine. {Yes, even though I lived in Kano State Nigeria then, I had my steady supply of foreign magazines, my favorite was ‘Seventeen‘. I know that early exposure to American life style and things changed me, molded my way of thinking….. Yes, I do NOT to think or act like the ‘typical’ Nigerian female….(don’t ask me what that means) smile emoticon. lol. I digress}. Anyhoo, I read that black is Elegant, Mysterious. SLIMMING. Glamorous. Sexy. Versatile.
Coco Chanel
And I love LBDs more because it came out from my favorite designer – Coco Chanel! My fashion inspiration! I love Coco Chanel! She is one of the reasons  that nurtured my passion for fashion! I can still see those models coming down the runway on CNN’s STYLE with Elsa Klensch. And my little girls’ brain dreaming of neon lights and faraway successes in the fashion world! YES, (I was born this way). lol
Anyhoo, I’ve always owned a Little Black Dress! For my mum’s sake, I made sure [when I could have my way with custom-making my own dresses at her tailor’s to have some sort of embroidery or design so as NOT to make it all black]. I still remember my very favorite LBD. It had a cascading elaborate gold thread  embroidery at the front, all the way to the navel. With large rhinestones of red, white and gold sewn into the pattern. I LOVED that dress! Now, I can make dresses myself, I shall duplicate that LBD.

So, for today, let us take a look at how some of our favorite people wore their little black dresses. Enjoy.

And please do leave a comment/input/observation.
Thanks.
Have a Great Weekend! I shall!.

Find me at the Miss Africa USA Beauty Pageant on Sunday November 13th.

NO, I shall NOT be wearing an LBD to the Red carpet there. I shall be wearing a gold sheath, very sexy if I may say. To show off the new 3lbs I just lost! smile emoticon
LOVELY LBDs. One thing I can say is: AFRICAN WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL!

A Black Dress alright, but….. maybe it is the wrinkle…. But I like that she went for a draped look here,
instead of the usual tight-fitting dresses our ladies insist on wearing ALL the time.
